CALP
Amy, a certified teacher with a Math minor from Texas State, pursued 700+ hours of dyslexia training. Drawing from her own struggles as a reader, she has dedicated 17 years to empowering dyslexic students through systematic, multi-sensory instruction.
Amy began her teaching career as a Certified General Education Teacher, earning a Bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Minor in Math from Southwest Texas State University ( Now Texas State University) in San Marcos,TX.
She taught students with dyslexia throughout her career and sought out specialized dyslexia training in 2005-2008 through the Scottish Rite Learning Center of Austin and Neuhaus Education Center. This rigorous training in Basic Language Skills of over 700 hours and five years of training helped her to teach students with systematic, sequential, multi-sensory instruction. She got her desire to get this training from teaching a student that has dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia.
As a fourth grade struggling reader herself, she understands what her students are going through with reading. Working with students as a classroom teacher in grades 1, 4, 6, 7 and 8, has given her a glimpse into how reading and math affect students. She has spent the last 17 years teaching dyslexic students and recently received compliments from students themselves or their parents about how she has impacted them.
